What is the role of an artist?

If you believe an artists job is to just paint pretty pictures, then there is no place for politics in art.

But if you believe, as I do, that an artists job is to challenge the society to think, to cast new light on important issues, and to push the boundaries into the unknown, then politics and art are inseparable.
